Raspberry Pi- A computer for only $35

by Blog_Admin

Ever wanted a really cheap computer, with enough power to perform basic task such as email and surfing the web? Well wait no longer as the Raspberry Pi foundation has come out with just that- a $35 dollar computer the size of a credit card.
The super-small package is an open computer ( isn’t enclosed within a case), but its size doesn’t limit I/O options. The Raspberry Pi  has 2 USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI output as well as a composite RCA port. For audio, the computer can pass it through the HDMI output or an included 3.5mm headphone jack.
Diving into the specs, the Raspberry Pi is housed on a Broadcom BCM2835 SoC ( System on a chip), it has a 700 MHz ARM1176JZF-S CPU, Broadcom VideoCore IV GPU thats capable of processing 1080p video , and 256MB of memory shared with the GPU. The Raspberry Pi doesn’t include a hard drive or solid state drive for storage, put uses SD cards to run off of and expand-ability.
The Raspberry Pi is a very capable piece of hardware for its size and price point, but its really intended for the DIY ( Do it Yourself) community. Previously, people that wanted to create electronic projects relpied on the Arduino chip-set, but now the raspberry Pi offers a much more powerful and significantly more versatile option giving projects that extra edge.
People have already done amazing things with the Raspberry Pi and its only been available for less than 6-months. Raspberry Pi Foundation highlights some of these projects on their website, like the “the highest ever photographs transmitted live from an amateur device in world.“ ( A raspberry Pi was hooked up to a webcam and then sent up in the air with a hydrogen balloon)
The Raspberry Pi foundation isn`t done with their Pi jsut yet as they are also releasing an even cheaper version of this computer that is intended to retail for $25. This version wont be as powerful as the current Pi but its sure to be just as versatile- though with limited spec.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation has also caught up for the demand for its computer as they have opened the restrictions on purchasing raspberry Pi units and now are allowing batch orders.
We are expecting great things from the Raspberry Pi and people have already done amazing things with this ultra small computer, now its a matter of time until the next great thing is done using the Raspberry Pi.
